Curriculum ReDesign
ILT - Instructor Led Training:
Pathway to Kinship’s
Critical Insight Course
I redesigned a 7-part instructor-led training (ILT) program to help adult learners build self-awareness, critical insight, and emotional regulation using the client’s 7 Keys framework. The updated curriculum strengthened engagement through clear scaffolding, interactive group activities, reflection exercises, and facilitator-friendly guidance.
Audience: Adult learners in a personal growth and reentry preparation program; trained facilitators
Responsibilities: Curriculum design (alignment, structure, activity development), content writing (introductions, meditations, reflections), ILT facilitation support, and visual layout
Tools Used: Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT, Google Docs, Microsoft Word
The Problem and Solution
Pathway to Kinship is a nonprofit committed to transformation and healing through structured programs focused on personal development and accountability. I partnered with the organization to redesign and elevate their Critical Insight curriculum—an intensive, facilitated course for adult learners.
The original version of the Critical Insight course offered powerful foundational content but needed refinement to better serve both learners and facilitators. While the materials included rich ideas, they were not yet structured to support consistent, engaging instruction. The course lacked clear scaffolding, practical tools, and opportunities for collaborative learning. The goal was to elevate the curriculum by integrating interactive learning strategies that aligned with the 7 Keys framework.
My Process
I restructured the curriculum into a cohesive, seven-chapter learner experience grounded in adult learning principles.
I implemented a multi-step process, leaning on the ADDIE model: Needs Analysis & Alignment, Curriculum Design & Scaffolding, Content Development & Design, and Final Build & Delivery.
Needs Analysis & Alignment
Collaborating with my client, I reviewed existing materials and clarified course goals. I mapped out learning objectives and aligned them with both participant and facilitator needs, identified gaps in engagement, structure, and interactivity.
Curriculum Design & Scaffolding
I reorganized the program and brought further clarity to the 7-part learning journey. Flow, pacing, and chapter-level objectives were clarified and defined.
I identified where meditations, reflections, and group activities would best reinforce key concepts.
Content Development & Design
I wrote or rewrote introductions, meditations, learning activities, and reflection prompts, providing facilitator-friendly guidance and participant-facing language. I worked with stakeholders to ensure materials had the correct tone for the learner audience, keeping in mind core adult learning principles. I designed engaging group and pair exercises, graphic organizers, and structured self-reflection activities. I drafted facilitator resources to test flow and usability before finalizing.
Final Build & Delivery
Design Document Notes
During the final build of the training, I applied consistent formatting and visual hierarchy for clarity,
delivering a polished, editable curriculum in PDF and Adobe Express formats for future updates. Additionally, I provided an updated course outline including all learning objectives for use and reference.
Reflection and Takeaways
The redesigned course will be adopted by Pathway to Kinship’s facilitators across seven California state institutions, where it will immediately impact over 2,500 learners and has the potential to reach thousands more annually.
Thoughtful instructional design transformed materials that lacked a cohesive rhythm and structure into a tool that will spark more powerful learning experiences. This project deepened my skill in balancing structure with flexibility. It also reinforced my ability to not only assist my client in more clearly articulating their course vision and goals, but to also make a positive collective impact on learner’s lives.
